The Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Nagoya City University traces its origins to the Nagoya Pharmaceutical School, founded in 1884, and proudly celebrated its 140th anniversary in 2024. With a long-standing tradition of excellence, it has made outstanding contributions to regional healthcare and has cultivated a large number of distinguished researchers, educators, and healthcare professionals.

In response to the rapid advancement of medical technologies and the widespread implementation of the separation of prescribing and dispensing in Japan, the demand for highly skilled pharmacists continues to grow. To meet this societal need, the university reformed its pharmacist education program in 2006, extending it to a six-year curriculum in line with national standards and international expectations.

The Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences offers a six-year program that provides rigorous and comprehensive education in pharmaceutical sciences and pharmacotherapy, aiming to develop highly competent pharmacists who can play leading roles across diverse healthcare settings. In parallel, the university also offers a four-year program in pharmaceutical and life sciences, designed to nurture the next generation of innovative researchers and professionals in drug discovery and life sciences. This program emphasizes a strong foundation in the chemistry and biology underlying pharmaceuticals, fostering individuals capable of driving advances in life sciences and medicine on a global scale.
