In knot theory, we study closed 1-dimensional manifolds in a 3-dimensional space. To classify knots, we define a knot invariant. A knot invariant is a map from the set of knots to a mathematical object, such as a group, a ring and so on. The fundamental group of the knot complement, Alexander polynomial and Jones polynomial are knot invariants. I am interested in knot invariants.
