School of Biology and Integrated Sciences

School of Biology and Integrated Sciences (Establishment scheduled for April 2018)

Outline

The School of Biology and Integrated Sciences is planned to be established immediately under the Graduate School of Natural Sciences in organizational hierarchy as the 7th and most recent school of Nagoya City University. The school will be made up of one department, the Department of Biology and Integrated Sciences, and two courses, the Biological Science Course and the Mathematical and Material Sciences Course.

At the School of Biology and Integrated Sciences, students initially learn the overall basics of science, and then study and research their major fields in order to cultivate comprehensive strengths and problem-finding abilities backed up by their wide-ranging perspective and specialist expertise. Thus, the school aims to cultivate human resources who can solve problems with logicality and cooperativeness. Accordingly, the school has established curricula that allow students to acquire a wide knowledge of science and smoothly proceed with their studies in the aforementioned two courses.
Biological Science Course
Students of this course learn the basics of science, including life science, material science and mathematic and information sciences, and then undertake the specialized study of life science. Thus, this course produces researchers, engineers, teachers, etc. who can actively participate in the life science field with their wide perspective of science.
Mathematical and Material Sciences Course
Students of this course learn the basics of science, including life science, material science and mathematic and information sciences, and then undertake the specialized study of either material science (chemistry, physics, astronomy and planetary science) or mathematic and information sciences (mathematics, information science). Thus, this course cultivates human resources with an understanding of life science and a broad knowledge of science who can actively participate in the field of material science or mathematic and information sciences.
